Chronological age is only a number when you have the desire, the tenacity and the inner strength to still feel full of energy, like an adolescent. Of course, the third age is not a walk in the park for everyone in the same way, but we are pretty sure that the story of this incredible granny of "only" 88 years will make you think again about the many prejudices surrounding old age and the period of seniority: and who said that when you are old you are not still determined and energetic?

This is the story of Demetria Euàn, an 88-year-old woman who lives in Tizimin, in the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula, is 88 years old and yet she still has the determination of a lioness and manages to do things that some young people would not know how to put into practice. Everyone in the village affectionately refers to her as Dona Mechita, and she has practically become a star in Tizimin as she climbs alone up her beloved trees to collect fruit.

Moreover, as Demetria recounts, she was born and raised in a poor family who lived off the harvest of the earth and the fruit that grew among the branches and leaves of the trees; she has always been used to climbing in the orchards and she has never stopped climbing these trees to grasp the goodness that grow above, even after having reached the venerable age of 88!

Every morning, Demetria places her feet on the trunk of the family tree, her back straight against the wall opposite, and begins the ascent towards the branches and leaves of caimitos, a typical fruit of South America to which Dona Mechita is particularly fond of.

When she picks the fruits of the chaimitos, Demetria is really happy and sure of herself, after all she has always been brought up by her parents to give value to everything that is born and grows from the ground; obviously, picking caimitos is also a means of living for this tenacious woman, since she sells these tasty fruits to the people of her village: "My mother has always been a hard worker, she still gets up every day at 5 in the morning and starts sweeping the ground, watering, cleaning, working her land, in these moments she is a very happy person! ", said one of Demetria's daughters.

Although her husband passed away ten years ago, Demetria is cared for every day, with affection, by two of her daughters and her many grandchildren, who only "scold" her every morning when they see her adventurously climb up her much-loved caimitos tree. After all, it has always been her way to make a living, and it will be for a long time to come.

Dear Demetria, you may have turned 88, but you are a true force of Nature!
