Some friendships are meant to last forever. Like that of Idgie and Ruth, an unlikely pair of animals, a paralyzed kitten and an abandoned but still courageous dachshund, bound by a very special feeling of friendship.

Ruth, a 7-month-old female cat with black and white fur and paralyzed hind legs, was found together with Idgie, a 2-year-old female dachshund, ready to protect her special friend from the outside world.

The two animals, left to themselves, would not have had much hope of survival, but fortunately, they were found by the Seminole County Animal Services and brought to safety.

As reported by the association for the protection of animals, the two were found in good physical condition, not malnourished - so, presumably, they had previously had a home and a family that took care of them.

But inexplicably, no one came to claim them and, of course, the cat could not have run away from home!

The good news is that both were adopted by Jacqueline Borum, who runs Hollywood Houndz Boutique & Spa, who had no doubts about the name of those two old friends. In fact, she named them Idgie and Ruth, just like the two female protagonists in the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes".

"'Their story seems to come from a Disney movie," their new owner said.

Seeing the dog and kitten interact with each other is absolutely touching! Clearly, Idgie seems to know that Ruth is special and that her job is to protect her until the end.

"When Idgie gets a new toy, she always brings it to the cat, Ruth - they share pretty much everything."

Ruth has always had a major handicap as she was born with deformed paws and Idgie seems to understand her vulnerability. That is why she always behaves as if she is Ruth's bodyguard.

After adopting Idgie and Ruth, Jacquelin found the inspiration to start a new project, Project Paws, a non-profit organization that helps animal shelters cover the costs of veterinary services.

Ruthie and Idgie are, of course, the mascots. "They are and will continue to fight for other animals that desperately need help," the woman said.

A moving story, which has touched the hearts of so many people around the world. The link between these two little creatures really goes beyond imagination.
