Our animal friends, although they are an integral part of our lives, do not always have access to all the places we frequent, especially when it comes to hospitals.

In many structures there is the rule "no animals allowed", and obviously we are not here to criticize such a choice, which certainly has valid hygienic reasons.

On the other hand, however, given the gravity of the situation, we also cannot condemn the "extreme" gesture that a compassionate man made for his seriously ill wife. He narrated this story himself and received the heartwarming comments of thousands of people from all over the world. Here are his words.

"My wife was in the hospital after a very invasive operation, which did not give the desired results. The prognosis was not very good. She could talk, but not eat or drink, and was surviving with an IV drip and pain medications. In a moment of lucidity, she convinced me to sneak our dog into her private room in the hospital so that she could see him "one last time."

Our dog is a 50 lb (23 kg) female Australian shepherd dog, and I discovered in that situation that she could fit perfectly in a suitcase, I put her in it, leaving the lid open, and we went to the hospital. When we arrived, I "explained" that I would reopen the zipper within a few minutes, and that then she would see her "mom."

Incredibly, she did not breath loudly, she did not complain, and she did not bark even once. When I went near the nurses' desk, I simply said that I was carrying some extra pillows for my wife. "No problem", they answered.

When we entered the room, my wife was asleep. I opened the zipper on the suitcase and our dog immediately jumped on the bed and went to gently lie down close to her, somehow avoiding all the tubes and wires. She positioned herself so that she could look my wife straight in the eye, and she remained quiet and motionless. My wife woke up several minutes later and started complaining about the pain.

Our dog immediately started to lick my wife making sweet gentle sounds as if she knew that barking would have revealed her presence. My wife hugged our dog for about an hour, smiling all the time. We were also discovered by a nurse, but the scene was so moving that she promised us she would not tell anyone. When my wife fell asleep again, I put the dog back in the suitcase, and again she did not resist.

My wife left us a few days later. As if this were not bad enough, now, every time I pick up a suitcase, our dog thinks we're going to see my wife again.
