Vegan woman refuses to remove lice from her baby girl's hair: "I respect all living creatures"

There are moral principles that we adopt throughout our lives: a sense of justice and fairness, the desire to do good for others, and so on. When we become parents, our view of the world also changes a little: taking care of an infant, raising them, educating them and loving them certainly broadens our "horizons". This doesn't mean that you have to give up on your core identity, but some small compromises usually have to be made.

But the mother who is the subject of this story  - we will call her Tracy here - does not believe this: for her, her moral principles and personal philosophy trumps everything. Read on to find out more:

This story all started when Tracy's daughter was playing with another little girl. The mother of the girl noticed Tracy's daughter kept scratching her head.

This mother then took a look at Tracy's daughter's head and, to her horror, saw the child's hair was infested with lice.

This mother immediately informed Tracy about the lice, but she was stunned by her response: "Yes, I know that she has lice, but that's perfectly OK," Tracy said.

Tracy then went on to explain her response: "I'm vegan and vegans don't take the life of any living being. This is why I don't intend to delouse my daughter. Living in my daughter's hair, the lice are able to thrive."

Stunned and confused, the other mother turned to the web to ask if Tracy's lack of action is "normal". Users were not slow to respond:

"Obviously it's ridiculous: these are parasites that harm our health and this alone should be more than enough to get rid of them," wrote user; "I don't consider lice as living creatures worth protecting," commented another; "I honestly don't even know if lice are sentient beings, but we certainly have the right to defend ourselves against them!", started yet another.
