There are few people in the world who are lucky enough to have it all: fame, success, money. One of these is Rob Hale who - after years of sacrifice - has become one of the richest men on the planet. However, Rob and his wife Karen are aware of the enormous wealth they possess and, for this reason, have never had a problem in donating part of their wealth to the less fortunate. These billionaires from Boston, USA, have always donated millions of dollars to charity, and recently, they decided to up the ante.

Rob and Karen have decided to donate $52 million to 52 non-profit organizations over the course of a year. To carry out this project, the two will donate 1 million dollars a week. Rob is the chairman of the giant Granite Telecommunications, a $1.5 billion company that provides communications services to more than two-thirds of the 100 largest companies in the US. Furthermore, he is the owner of the Boston Celtics: his total assets are worth around $5 billion dollars.

The couple have previously donated to notable organizations, such as Boston Children's Hospital and Rob's graduate college, Connecticut College. But this time, they chose to support smaller charities. The majority of donations will go towards boosting the funds of various non-profit organizations.

"We think all of these organizations are great, have a positive impact on the community, but sadly, they're quite small," Rob said.

The Hales gave their first donation to the New England Wildlife Center. Over six months, the couple donated $28.5 million dollars to 29 organizations dealing with environmental issues or medical research. Rob explained that the organizations should be able to invest the million dollars and earn at least 5% - $50,000 dollars - a year in interest. "This donation can give organizations a more stable future and a chance to say, 'Okay, we know where the money is coming from and we can focus on doing a great job,'" stated Rob.
