Sometimes a single gesture can completely change a person's day. We often forget how simple things can make a difference and cheer someone up. But luckily, there are still people who are still aware of this fact. A very clear example of this is a kind police officer from South Jersey, United States, who opened his heart - and his wallet - to a pregnant waitress who had just served him lunch in a restaurant.

Young Courtney English, 23, a waitress in a restaurant in Gloucester, New Jersey, served a police officer a salad and a glass of water: "He was very nice," she told the local press. During the meal, the officer overheard Courtney tell the other customers that she was having her first child: "He must have overheard my conversation with the other customers when I told them I was having my first child and that I would soon be leaving work, "explained the 23-year-old.

Shortly after finishing his meal, the policeman left, leaving some money for the bill on his table and departed without saying a word.

"One of the cashiers told me the officer had tipped me €100 euros and I started crying with joy. This never happens. It was really kind, it was really nice," said Courtney, has worked at the restaurant for two years. "I wanted to thank him, get to know his name, but he was already gone," she added.

The officer - apparently also a new dad - left Courtney a note that read: "Enjoy your first child. You'll never forget it." The young woman will be a single mother (even though the child's father is financially present). At the moment, in fact, the future mother lives in her parents' house.

Courtney's father, Brian Cadigan, was so touched by the officer's act of generosity that he posted a photo of the receipt and a message of thanks on Facebook. "A wonderful person not only left a very generous tip, but also a lovely message for my daughter. I don't know who this officer is, but he helped my little girl and let her have a great day," he wrote.

"Thank you, I have always had the utmost respect for the police, but you went further: you are not just a policeman, but a beautiful human being. God bless you," he concluded.
