The liver is an organ to which we do not pay enough attention, although it fulfills essential functions that keep our body healthy, such as transforming the nutrients of the foods we ingest or filtering toxins that harm us.

In addition, its job is to convert the food we consume into energy, so when it does not work well, we can feel the consequences throughout our entire body.

There are in fact some symptoms which, although apparently mild, can tell us a great deal about the state of health of this fundamental organ.

  • Nausea: Nausea can be an indicator of liver problems, especially when it occurs after eating fatty foods. Therefore, it is essential to pay attention to symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Skin problems or yellowing of the eyes: When the liver is not functioning well, this can also be seen on our skin. Inflammation, rashes, and yellowing of the white part of our eyes can be a sign of serious liver problems.
  • Upper abdominal pain: When the liver is not working as it should, you may experience discomfort or even pain in the upper abdomen.
  • Itching: Itchy skin is another symptom caused by the accumulation of bile, and this is a fairly common reaction when there are toxins in the body that the liver cannot properly neutralize.

  • Bleeding: Bleeding is an unusual symptom, but it is wise to pay attention if it occurs. Frequent nosebleeds or bruises that appear for no reason can be associated with liver dysfunction.

  • Changed color in urine and stool: When the urine starts to look darker and the stool appears lighter, it can be a sign of liver dysfunction.
  • Muscle pain: Muscle and joint pain can also be a symptom of a liver disorder. In addition, bruising and swelling of the legs can be a reason to immediately consult your doctor.
  • Fatigue or weakness: People suffering from liver problems often feel exhausted even after sleeping for hours, although there is apparently no real reason for their tiredness.
  • Fever: Fever can also be a symptom of liver disease. If you feel tired and your temperature is higher than normal, you should make sure your liver is functioning properly.
