Fetal macrosomia is a condition that occurs when a newborn baby weighs about 9 lb (4 kg) or more.

Usually, this circumstance occurs due to the mother's metabolic disorders, such as when she is overweight or suffering from diabetes.

Hyperglycemia is, in fact, transmitted to the cells of the fetus that cause it to grow excessively, thereby increasing the dimensions of the unborn child.

On 25 December 2018, a gigantic baby girl was born who since then has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, and here's why!

Her name is Jasleen, at birth she weighed almost 17.5 lb (8 kg) and was 22.6 in (57.5 cm) long, and the most extraordinary thing is that she came into the world with a natural birth!

Usually, when cases of fetal macrosomia are discovered, doctors prefer to anticipate birth by performing a cesarean because of the complications that may occur.

This time, however, the doctors proceded in a traditional manner, while respecting all possible precautions.

Coordinating the obstetric team at the Leipzig hospital was Professor Holger Stepan, who assembled the whole team of pediatricians and surgeons to intervene in case of need.

Fortunately, the little baby (so to speak), was born without any particular problems. She is healthy and the mother is also fine. Jasleen will have to be monitored for some time and certainly also during early childhood.

Indeed, among the most common consequences in "oversized" newborn babies is the possibility that they develop obesity or even serious metabolic disorders.

In any case, for now, the baby's family is experiencing the happiness of welcoming their newborn baby. In addition, they have had a bit of notoriety due to the fact that from the moment of her first cry, Jasleen had already won a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, and as the saying goes ..."Whoever starts well ends well!"
