When 31-year-old Kelsi Pierce and her husband Kyle decided to start a family, they never expected to face so many difficulties. For three long years, the Minnesota couple tried everything to become parents, spending most of their savings and even getting into debt. In the end, Kelsi got very bad news from doctors: the lining of her uterus was too thin to be able to carry a pregnancy to term. Faced with this sad reality, Kelsi and Kyle were left with very few options: adoption or surrogacy. The latter option seemed to be the couple's preference, but it would have cost something like $100,000 dollars and the couple didn't have this type of money. At this point, Kelsi's mother intervened to help, and offered to be the surrogate. Who would have thought that at 53 years of age, Kelsi's mother's her body would be perfectly capable of supporting a pregnancy? But despite her age, Kelsi's mother was given the green light by doctors.

The moment Kelsi's mom fell pregnant, a "miracle" happened. As described by Kelsi: "I took pregnancy tests every month and it became a habit. One day, I took a look at one test and I was about to throw it away as usual, but I then noticed two lines". Kelsi had fallen pregnant naturally. In the space of two months, Kelsi and Kyle went from having no hope of conceiving children to having two. It was a lot for Kelsi to process after years of bad news.

Today Kelsi and Kyle are parents to two beautiful children and Kelsi is happy to share her experience with other mothers. Her key message is to never give up: "Even if you have to follow a decidedly unconventional path, if being a mother is important to you, there are many ways to achieve it."
