There are women who convince themselves that their place is in the kitchen, at the stove or, in general, in the house - a small kingdom of which they are "master". But master of what then? Cleaning the floors, making the beds, making dinner and so on. Fortunately, thanks to years and years of struggles to be able to obtain the recognition of equal rights, this type of conception of women appears to be outdated. Perhaps, however, "outdated" is too optimistic an expression: although common thinking accepts that women can be as free and independent as men, there are people who still seem to live in the past. Clare Giles, mother of 4, is one of them. Strange that she's a woman, right? This mother has decided to bring up her children in a "traditional" way, perhaps according to the worst ideas that tradition could offer her.

Clare Giles demands that her two daughters, Maddie and Bonnie, aged 8 and 12, respectively, take care of the housework, while her two sons, Matthew and Charlie, are free to play, as they are absolved from all sorts of duties and responsibilities (at least as far as housework is concerned). After her statement, the controversy immediately broke out in the United States, but for this woman it's simply a matter of playing the roles established for men and women. For Clare, therefore, household chores would not be "a man's thing" and, as a result, she doesn't force her sons to do them. It's a different story for girls, so poor Maddie and Bonnie stick to a strict routine once they get home from school, a routine that includes mopping the floors, making the beds and making dinner.

As if that weren't enough, Clare's further statements fueled the controversy among those who don't share this kind of outdated opinion: "If I told Matthew or Charlie to help with the chores, they'd laugh in my face. It's not part of their culture". It makes us think, in fact, and we're also a little angry, that there are parents who still bring up their children in this way in 2021. After so many years of struggles and sacrifices, which our grandmothers and great-grandmothers have carried out for us, we find women who self-impose the role of housewife? There's nothing wrong with being a housewife, especially if it is a lifestyle choice, but forcing girls to "wash all the floors in the house and bake a cake in 60 minutes" seems to us to definitely be on another level.

Bonnie's (age 8) dream? Having a husband and two children to cook and clean for all day. And to think that at 8 there are children who dream of being an astronaut.

What do you think of this somewhat "old-fashioned" up bringing? Let us know in the comments!
