Each country has its own legislation regarding adoptions, but we know with certainty that everywhere there is a long process to be gone through before being able to officially declare oneself "adoptive parents or children". Another certainty, unfortunately, is the one concerning the average age of children who manage to find a family: usually, the youngest are more easily adopted. It is difficult for a teenager to settle permanently with an adoptive family, even though they need affection and unconditional love just like younger children. Still, Chad and Paul Beanblossom, a gay couple who have been married for 5 years, wanted to adopt Michael, a 17-year-old boy rejected by at least 9 other previous families. Good news that we hope will be an example for anyone who plans to adopt.

After his mother's death, little Michael was taken into state custody and, as a result, moved from one foster home to another in hopes of finding permanent accommodation. In 5 years he has been tossed between 9 different families: none of them, however, expressed the desire to adopt him. For him, his hopes were fading, especially in relation to his age (almost no one adopts a 17-year-old boy). At the time, he still didn't know that the tenth family would be the "right" one.

After spending a lot of time together, one day it was Michael himself who asked the couple if they would adopt him. A desire which turned out to be shared by the adoptive parents to be!

The official adoption ceremony was held via Zoom, since, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the restrictive measures impose mandatory distancing between people. As it turns out, Chad and Paul proved to be the perfect couple to care for the orphaned boy. Allison Sayne, a social worker, recalled: "Paul and Chad Beanblossom were fantastic in supporting Michael and giving him an opportunity that he otherwise would never have gotten."

Michael now has his whole life ahead of him and a loving family behind him.
