Throwing away banana peels? Stop! Here are 10 unexpected uses that will convince you not to do it anymore!

June 16, 2018 • By Shirley Marie Bradby

Do you know how many ways people use a banana peel? None!? In fact, it is always thrown into the trash, at most in the differentiated organic bin.

A banana peel, however, before being disposed of, can be used on many different occasions --- from whitening teeth to fertilizing the soil.

Knowing how beneficial a simple banana peel can be will make you re-evaluate it!

Reduces wrinkles

The nutrients contained in banana peels (vitamin C, E, potassium, zinc, iron, and manganese) help to restrain the development of wrinkles. Here's how you can use it to keep your skin smooth:

Place the banana peel on the skin area to be treated and leave it for 30 minutes, even better if overnight.
Rinse the skin and moisturize it.
Repeat the treatment three times a week.

Fertilize the soil

Decomposing banana peels in the soil means enriching it with calcium, magnesium, sulfur, phosphates, potassium, and sodium. All of these nutrients are beneficial for plants that need rich soil to grow well.

Cut the banana peels into small pieces
Spread the pieces near the plants or the place where you are going to plant them.
Water the plants to let the banana skins settle in the ground.

Whiten teeth

The potassium contained in a banana peel can reduce the yellowing of teeth, caused by coffee, tea, blueberries, and raspberries.

  • Brush and rinse your teeth as usual
  • Rub the inside of a banana peel for two minutes on your teeth
  • Rinse your teeth again and repeat the treatment every day.

It makes meat tender

The secret to tender meat? Add a few pieces of banana peel to the cooking pan. Seeing is believing!

It reduces acne and itching

Do you know that the histamines contained in the banana skin are able to relieve the itching caused by mosquito bites?

Apply a banana peel to the affected area.
Leave for 10-15 minutes.
Remove the peel and repeat the treatment if necessary.
Vitamin C, E, potassium, zinc, iron, and manganese contained in banana peels reduce inflammation of the skin and suppress the formation of acne.

Keep the banana peel in contact with the skin for 5-10 minutes.
Rinse the skin
Repeat twice a day.

Makes jewelry shine again

Potassium has a polishing effect on metals and precious stones:

Blend a whole banana peel
Add half a glass of water
Mix until you get a paste
Apply it on the jewels for a few minutes.

Warning: In the use of banana peels that involve contact with the skin, it is advisable to perform an allergic test on a small area. If no irritation and/or itching occurs after 24 hours it is possible to proceed with the treatment.

Have you seen how many uses there are for banana peels? Now you will think twice before throwing banana peels away!
