We have all learned that washing our hands is the first remedy against the risk of infection, but bacteria and viruses lurk everywhere and we all tend to underestimate this fact.

There are in fact, many items that we have at home that we tend to continue to use longer than we should, perhaps without knowing it, where there are swarms of microbes (and their feces) hiding that might put your health at risk.

Here below is how often we should replace some of the objects we use every day.

- Toothbrush: every 3-4 months
- pillow: every 3 years maximum
- bath sponges: every 3 weeks; kitchen sponges: every month
- contact lens container: every 3 months (and do not exceed the days of applicability of the indicated lenses)
- cosmetics: lipstick -- every 2 years; blush -- every 8 months; nail polish -- every 12 months; mascara and eye-liner: every 3 months
