In many stories that we hear told, it seems that animals really can perceive things that we human beings are not able to grasp. Sensations and emotions that, at times, can even save a person's life. A dog is to truly be considered man's best friend and Shannon Lorio, a woman who was literally rescued by a stray dog, knows something about it. The woman had a nasty car accident and if it had not been for the timely intervention of a German Shepherd who was wandering near the ditch into which she had fallen with her car, she probably would not have made it.

Shannon Lorio had just had a fight with her husband when she decided to go out for a ride in the car and clear her mind. The woman had not foreseen that taking a quiet, less traveled road her run would come to an abrupt halt. Unfortunately, Shannon lost control of the car and went off the road; ending up in a ditch, after being thrown out of the rear window of the car. Needless to say, the accident was quite serious and the woman continued to lose consciousness in the following minutes. Suddenly, however, she felt a warm and regular breath near her face: a stray dog had approached her, who, understanding the situation, started dragging the woman towards the roadside.

By dint of dragging her by the jacket, the intelligent German Shepherd managed to revive the woman, who was able to cling to him to get up on her feet and stop the first car on the road.

Fortunately, Shannon immediately found a car willing to stop; the driver immediately called an ambulance and the woman's husband. At the hospital, it emerged that Shannon was having an intracranial hemorrhage and would surely have died if the doctors had not intervened promptly. But even more important is that the woman would not have made it to the hospital in time if it had not been for Hero, the stray German Shepherd, renamed "Hero" just to remember his heroic endeavor.

Unfortunately Shannon was unable to keep Hero with her, but fortunately the brave dog was adopted by a shelter volunteer and dog trainer. In short, a story with a happy ending for everyone!
