Flip-flops are widespread summer footwear, which allows the feet to finally breathe after the long winter season.

They are a type of slipper or summer shoe consisting mainly of a shoe sole, usually completely smooth, and a Y-shaped string-like attachment anchored to the sole itself.

Although this type of footwear is much loved by most people and can also seem very comfortable, the experts, once again, with the arrival of the summer season, raise the alarm!

Be careful, if you are going to wear them and be knowledgeable that they can have harmful repercussions on your health.

Let's see what are the reasons why it is not such a good idea to wear flip flops:

Viruses and bacteria. Flip-flops are footwear that leaves a large part of the foot almost "barefoot" and, therefore, leave your feet even more exposed to bacteria and viruses - and especially if you have a foot injury, the likelihood that something infectious may penetrate your body increases.

Produces walking defects. Flip flops are not suitable for walking. This is due to its smooth sole, without even a minimum of a heel, which means that it does not provide much stability. It has also been verified, thanks to a research study conducted by the University of Aubrun (USA), that people who walk with flip-flops take shorter steps than normal, considerably slowing down their walking abilities.

Heels and toes. When we walk with flip-flops, we tend to put a lot of weight on our heels, but the structure of this footwear is not suitable for cushioning our weight. The rubber of the sole, in fact, is not able to support the weight and this can cause pain in the heels and toes.

In fact, prolonged use of flip-flops can even change the appearance of our toes, due to the constant effort needed to keep the flip flops on your feet as you walk.

Blisters. The persistent use of flip flops can cause the appearance of blisters between the toes, which is a rather common problem since it is simply a piece of plastic that holds the slipper together.

Pain and changes in the way of walking. The continuous use of flip-flops can even alter the way we walk. This happens mainly because people tend to squeeze their toes to keep the flip flops on their feet and the pressure on the toes adds further stress to the ankle.

If you really cannot do without wearing flip flops in the summer, then at least make sure you wear them exclusively at the beach, thus avoiding prolonged use.
