A study conducted in the United States has concluded that the age when man feels he is an adult - and starts behaving as such - is far beyond what we expect. In fact, the estimated age is around 54 years old.

It is at this time of life that a man starts to feel fulfilled and sure enough of himself to start living with less fear.

What helps to facilitate all of this is our higher life expectancy and the fact that paternity can also occur after a man is 40 years old.

According to the study, which involved 1000 men including show business and entertainment personalities,  insecurities related to their physical appearance, the fear of losing their hair and of making important personal and professional decisions, affect the life of a man until he is around 54 years old.

Until this age, their behavior is very similar to that of an adolescent who prefers to postpone problems rather than face them. It is above all the fear of getting old that pushes men to preserve that eternal Peter Pan behavior.

This older age identified by the American study shifts the canonically identified age by 14 years to that of full maturity for a man. In fact, if a few decades ago, 40 years old was the threshold beyond which men said that they felt mature enough to be able to rid themselves of many insecurities typical of youth, actually now these uncertainties remain the same up to 54 years of age.

To have contributed to this shift over time is our modern society that makes financial security more precarious for both men and women and inevitably postpones the arrival of fatherhood for many.

Now, it would seem appropriate to say: Life begins at 54!
