Eliminate pests in the garden: Sprinkle a layer of crushed eggshells on the soil to keep away snails and other animals that could harm your plants. The angular and sharp edges will constitute an insurmountable barrier.

Reinforce tomatoes: The problem most frequently encountered in the cultivation of tomatoes is the weakness of the plant that often breaks under the weight of the tomato fruit. This is a clear sign of a lack of calcium that can be resolved with a treatment based on eggshells. Bury some eggshells around the plants to enrich the garden soil.

Taking care of plants and seedlings: Actually, besides tomatoes, any other plant that you have cultivated in your garden can benefit from a treatment of calcium. Also, if you have plants in pots or bulbs buried in the garden, just sprinkle some crushed eggshells around them in the vicinity of the roots.

Food Calcium Supplement: Contrary to what people may think eggshells are edible, as long as you follow a procedure that makes them safe. Everyone knows that eggshells are a breeding ground for salmonella, bacteria that is harmless to the birds but quite harmful to human beings. The only way to annihilate this bacteria is by cooking. Therefore, before being consumed, the eggshells need to be first boiled in hot water for 10 minutes. Make sure that the eggshells remain completely covered in the hot water.  Next, put the eggshells, well separated from each other on a baking sheet and place in preheated oven at 100°C (212°F) for 15 minutes.  After this step, the eggshells are ready to be blended or ground into a fine powder.

A teaspoon of this fine powder contains about 400 mg of calcium. Obviously, it is not an absolute value because it depends on the type of egg and the type of feed the hen has consumed. The fine calcium powder can be integrated with the ingredients for the preparation of pizza or pasta and is an excellent calcium supplement for people who have a deficiency. Just think that the recommended daily dosage for a healthy individual is between 500 and 800 mg!

However, be careful not to abuse a good thing! Calcium is good but too much is harmful, especially for the heart. The intake of this calcium powder should be in very small quantities and only in case of need! If you never want to throw any eggshells away, you can use them as indicated in other tips that we have listed in this article!

In the following video, this procedure is explained once again, so that you can successfully transform eggshells into a fine calcium powder. Please do not skip any steps!
