Grandparents are a precious resource: after a life spent working they deserve the right to rest and retirement as a reward for the many sacrifices made in the course their lives. So, it is too bad then that with the economic crisis, more and more elderly people cannot afford the luxury of staying at home and are forced to continue working, even if they are no longer as capable.

This is the case of Ramón Rojas, a 69-year-old grandfather who makes wooden toys by hand to sell them outside a zoo located in Chilpancingo, Mexico.

Don Ramón became a carpenter at the age of 35: he learned to work wood by himself and started because he wanted to make toys for his daughters when they were 4 years old. "I just wanted to see them happy," he commented.

Now, at nearly 70, he has been forced to continue making his beautiful toys to survive: "My work is a bit complicated and tiring, but I'm always happy to see my finished products." Recently, however, the man had a run of bad luck. Don Ramón was sad, frustrated and worried because he was unable to sell his handmade toys (which includes miniature, toy furniture).

One day, a young woman named Fernanda who came over to talk to Don Ramón because he looked so sad. As soon as she became aware of the old man's difficulties, the young woman decided to help him using technology, and posted photos of his merchandise on social media platforms.

"Look who I found! Mr. Ramón Rojas asks you please to visit him. He is near the Zoochilpan zoo selling these beautiful miniature pieces of furniture which he makes himself with much love. He spoke to me and said he was sad because he had not sold a single piece. They are beautiful and are cheap. He also makes full size furniture", wrote the young woman on Facebook.

Ramón didn't have much hope that Fernanda's post would make a difference, but he thanked the young woman for her good intentions. What he didn't know is that social media has become a very powerful tool. Within hours, thousands of people had shared Fernanda's photos and dozens of people turned up to see and buy Ramón's wares.

Fernanda's post achieved such great success that Ramón even received several buying requests from the United States. Thanks to a very simple gesture of kindness made by a sweet girl, Don Ramón's life is much improved and we hope that things will just get better and better!
