Doing laundry doesn't take a bachelor's degree, but it's not as simple a task as it seems. Often times we get caught up in choosing the right products to buy, like what's going to make our laundry feel the softest or the freshest. There are so many products to choose from that, honestly, it sometimes gets overwhelming. A part from being expensive, they are also full of chemicals that are not only hazardous to kids, but to the environment. A more cost and environmentally friendly solution is easier to find than what you'd think. In fact, you probably have it in your fridge right now: white vinegar!

White vinegar can be used for many things. As far as your laundry is concerned, vinegar is a key ingredient that serves many functions: its a natural fabric softener, stain fighter, and odor remover and intensifies the cleaning power of laundry detergent.

A part from white vinegar's ability to make our laundry come out smelling fresher and feeling softer, it's also great at keeping your washing machine free of limescale buildup. This is why it's a good idea to deep cleanevery now and then your washer with vinegar. Instead of filling the washer with clothes, fill it with one liter of white vinegar, set the water's temperature to 140°f, and start the cycle. Once the cycle is finished, most - if not all - of the limescale buildup should be gone.

As a natural fabric softener, white vinegar is perfect for keeping your clothes nice and soft. Although you might think that white vinegar would leave a terrible odor on your clothing, it actually leaves your clothes smelling fresher and cleaner. The best way to use white vinegar as a fabric softener is to put 100 ml in the "fabric softener" tray of your washing machine. Once your clothes are dry, you'll be able to feel just how soft they are.

As a stain-fighter, white vinegar is strong enough to handle even some of the peskiest stains. It's especially great at removing sweat marks. How do you use it as a stain fighter, then? Dilute a tablespoon of white vinegar in a glass of hot water and then apply the mixture to whatever stains you have on your shirt. If you want even more surprising results, add a spoonfull of bakng soda to the stains. Let the mixture rest for about 15 minutes. Once the 15 minutes are up, you shouldn't be able to even tell where the stains were!
