Do you usually put your knives in the dishwasher? Well, you shouldn't.

The blades of knives are very delicate and this type of machine washing shortens their life. The type of program chosen, the detergent used, the humidity to which they are exposed - all these damage blades. It is much better to hand-wash your knives (and especially if they have wooden handles).

Not all pots and pans are dishwasher safe. Some of the materials that some types of pots and pans are made of are delicate and can be damaged in the dishwasher. Cast iron, copper, aluminum are all metals that need special care For pots and pans made of these materials, it is best wash them by hand in warm water, and without using abrasive sponges.

The same goes for any hand-decorated/painted kitchen items. It is true that we want to save time and the dishwasher helps us to do this. But it is also true that if we want to preserve our hand-decorated/painted items, it is best not to put them in a dishwasher.

Warm water and a soft sponge are what you need to clean these delicate and possibly valuable objects.

4. Any wooden object

Wood is not dishwasher safe.

Ladles, cutting boards, bowls and other items made from wood will be damaged in a dishwasher. Wood absorbs water and odors and will warp. Again, washing these wooden items by hand in lukewarm (not hot) water is the recommended cleaning method.

And then there are our crystal "heirlooms". These wonderful crystal tableware services - perhaps a treasured heirloom - are too fragile to be put in a dishwasher. The danger lies not only in them becoming opaque, but they also risk cracking and chipping. Handwashing is the only recommended method for cleaning antique crystal objects and tableware.

These are the main categories of objects which you should not put into a dishwasher. Were you already aware of this advice?
