Failed romantic relationships always cause deep wounds, but sometimes the pain can motivate a person to try to improve their life and to be happy again. An example of this is Jen Atkin who, after being left by her boyfriend because "she was too fat", decided to follow a healthy diet and take back control of her life. In fact, in two years, the young woman lost 50 kilos (110 pounds), going from 107 to 57 kilos. But there is more. After achieving an enviable physique, Jen decided to enter a beauty contest.

Jen's transformation started in 2015. She was 26 years old at the time, worked as an office administrator and followed a very sedentary lifestyle: "On working days, I ate large quantities of pasta or pizza, and even pigged out on family-sized chocolate bars. On the weekends, my boyfriend and I at the time did nothing but sit on the sofa in our pajamas and eat take-out food. We each spent about £26 pounds a day on fast food. "

One day, however, her boyfriend decided to leave her because of her physical appearance and Jen was completely devastated: "The world collapsed in on me. I cried for weeks and continued to eat compulsively. I used food as a source of comfort".

After the first few weeks spent in shock, Jen decided she wanted to change her life by enhancing her physical appearance and taking care of herself by following a healthier lifestyle. She began by paying attention to nutrition, then she supplemented this with physical exercise - long walks and then eventually, proper workouts at a gym. Within two years, she achieved such a remarkable transformation that it prompted her to enroll in a beauty contest. In 2017 she made it to the semi-finals of the Miss Genting - Sheffield competition and in 2018, she even made it to the final.

She withdrew from competing after her wedding in 2019, but the following year she decided to give it another go and participated in the 2020/2021 Miss Great Britain competition. She never imagined she would win. "When I started participating in beauty pageants, it was just to have some fun. I never imagined I would get this far. Winning the title of Miss Great Britain marked the end of a long and difficult, but also extraordinary journey," said Jen. She continued: "Even though my body has changed so much, I think my personality has stayed the same and I'm happy to have turned a negative experience into something constructive and positive in my life. "

Congratulations to this young woman!
