The reason why the waters of Lake Hillier on Middle Island, in the South Atlantic, off the south coast of Western Australia are pink is not yet clear!

However, as can be seen from the drone images, the phenomenon is clearly visible and the pink color is enhanced by the white sand and the surrounding green vegetation.

The most likely explanation for the pink coloration is the presence of a bacterial colony and a very particular type of algae that have transformed this small reserve of water into a place of natural beauty. Marvelous!
