When the weekend arrives, everyone fills it up with a myriad of activities and commitments that they cannot do during the week.

But if you are the kind of person who when they think about the weekend cannot help but wish for many hours of sleep, well, you are not lazy, what you are doing is investing in your health.

To confirm this is a Swedish study that informs us that recuperating hours of lost sleep on the weekend is definitely good for our health.

The study analyzed the influence of the lack of sleep on the state of health of people in general; the study  noted that those individuals who do not sleep enough hours at night – at least 6 hours – are exposed to a higher risk of developing diseases of various kinds, 65% of which decrease life expectancy.

Those who get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep per night enjoy better health and longer life spans. However, those who fail to get enough sleep during the week can remediate the situation on the weekends. According to research, sleeping as much as you need on the days when you do not have to work is essential to restoring the body and mind.

Nevertheless, be careful to not exceed because there are also health risks for those who sleep too much as well as for those who sleep too little. Staying under the covers for too long is associated with cardiovascular disease, although this must actually be a real and constant habit in order to pose a serious threat.

In conclusion, you can stop feeling guilty; sleeping as much as you can on the weekends is not being lazy, it is taking care of yourself!
