12 over-sized animals that upend our ideas about big animals

When it comes to mixing and combining animal genetic code, nature does not just play with shapes and colors but also with size!

In fact, it is not uncommon for specimens or whole species to be distinguished from within their own species by their decisively non-ordinary dimensions.

Consequently, a rabbit can weigh as much a dog, or a jellyfish can compete in size with a small car.

Here is a photo gallery of animals that definitely cannot go unnoticed!

1. The Japanese spider crab. Many call it Crabzilla (from the union of the word "crab" and "Godzilla").

2. The Giant Weta --- Among the largest insects in the world and they live in New Zealand.

3. The Percheron Horse. The Percheron is a breed of draft horse that originated in the Huisne river valley in western France.

4. The "Coscinocera Hercules" (Hercules Moth) is the largest moth in nature and is found in Australia.

5. The "Pteropus neohibernicus" aka " The Bismarck flying fox" is the largest bat in the world.

6. The African Snail which can reach up to 7 inches (20 cm) in length.

7. The Chinese salamander is the largest amphibian in the world and can reach a maximum weight of 66 lbs (30 kg).


8. The Saltwater crocodile is about 19.5 ft (6 m) long and is found in the Philippines.

9. The Rana golia is found in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. These frogs can reach up to 12 inches (30 cm) in length and about 7 lb (3 kg) in weight.

10. The Nomura Medusa as an adult has a diameter that is close to 6.5 ft (2 meters).
