In nature, the food chain has dictated strict rules to assure survival. In fact, all prey have come up with more or less effective strategies to escape the clutches of their predators.

Sometimes the tactic is not a very big one, like for instance the one concocted by nature for the “puss caterpillar" moth, which gets its name from the fur that covers its body during its larval stage.

This lovely moth has caused many people to be taken to the hospital, especially children, who have recklessly touched the puss caterpillar moth intrigued by its soft fur.

The puss caterpillar moth is easily recognizable due to being covered with thick soft hair or fur, like that of a cat, from which comes the nickname "puss caterpillar" moth. Hidden underneath the soft fur are tiny poisonous needles that sting and stick into skin spreading a poisonous substance.

People who have been stung say that they felt a sharp pain that spread from their fingertips to their shoulder. The sting is similar to that caused by a wasp but the consequences are far more invasive --- nausea, heavy sweating, vomiting, and malaise.

Doctors recommend, that if a person is stung, they should immediately remove the poisonous needle from the skin. To do this, the best way is to use adhesive tape. First, attach the adhesive tape to the affected area and then rip the tape off in one decisive motion. If the stinging sensation and discomfort are not resolved in a matter of minutes; then, you need to proceed to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Similar to this unusual moth, there are hundreds of other species that hide malicious threats to humans, despite their innocent appearance. It is important to avoid any contact with unfamiliar insects and animals to avoid unpleasant incidents.
