Houses that hide from us in plain sight!

Whoever has the chance to build a house exactly the way they would like also has the luxury of making some particular or special requests and seeing them realized!

One of the possible requests is to be able to enjoy a house beautifully located --- but that does not stand out and is practically invisible to strangers as the house completely blends into the location becoming one with the surrounding environment.

Architects who have been involved in these creating these type of houses, like the ones in these images, have focused specifically on this aspect of invisibility and the results are absolutely remarkable.

1. Edgeland House (a dugout house) in Texas, USA --- this looks like a grassy hill, right?

Look closer! This dugout house in Texas descends into the ground for over 6 ft (2 meters) and inside there is so much space that there is even a swimming pool!

Here you can get a better external view of this structure named Tula House (and also its interior!).

3. In China, cities are overcrowded, so some new houses have been built on the rooftops of shopping malls!

4. In canyons, in the USA, it is possible to find this! An entire house excavated from rock! (Montezuma Canyon, Utah).

This house is called Cliff Haven and it was built right into the side of a mountain.

It was built in 1986 by a couple who wanted to get away from the chaos of modern life.

Find out what it looks like inside!

5. This is Villa Vals, in Switzerland.

In Switzerland, the ban on building houses that changed the landscape led the architect in charge of this project to excavate and put the construction into the ground.

Here are all the photos.

6. Also in this case, in order to see this house, you have to change perspective.

We are in Coquimbo, Chile. The house is built on two levels, one of which is the basement and has a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean.

Find out more.

7. In the Norwegian village of Hordaland, there is this small hunting lodge with a beautiful lake view.

The stones and the grass that cover the outer surface of the building make the place really difficult to spot.

Here you can better understand its particular design and location.

8. A house that completely blends into the California desert.

9. In the middle of the Swedish Lapland you can stay in a Mirror Cube at the TreeHotel -- in a hotel room made of glass!

An interesting fact: The sky-high Mirror Cubes are equipped with infrared plates that alert flying birds to the presence of an obstacle.

10. This spectacular luxury home excavated from cliff rock has not yet been realized, but ...

This photograph has received so much attention on the web that it has attracted the interest of many investors.

Taking responsibility for this bold project are Dutch architects who are part of the Architectural and Industrial Design Platform called LAAV Architects.

A small bonus. Do you like this "modest house"?

Unfortunately, the actual structure has not been built yet, and this image is just a (fantastic) rendering made by Dutch architect Alex Hogrefe.

So ... which of these hidden houses impressed you the most?
